A Fading Amaranth eBook Shauna Aura Knight Reviews
Nathaniel and Alexandria are not too good at relationships. Nathaniel is a vampire and tired of the life he has lead for so long. He has to hide out from other vampires and those who despise vampires and try to kill them. He spends most of his hours reading at home. He hates when he has to go out and feed.
Alexandria has telepathy and can hear the thoughts of others around her. It makes her want to stay away from others and just focus on her art. She does enjoy music and one night encounters Nataniel.
They are both shocked that their powers don't work on one another. He can glamour her and her attraction to him is genuine for once. She loves that she can't hear his thoughts. Even though they have this immediate connection, they are not that comfortable with sharing their lives with one another. They tend to push one another away and then be terrified the other will leave. A Fairy creature is attacking those with psychic abilities like Alexandria and they must band together with others to save her and others from a dark presence.
It is an interesting take on vampires. At over 100 years, vampires are described as being at the end of their time. They are so disconnected that they have no real joy. Nathaniel thought he lost it all including his skill as a poet when he became a vampire. He never liked the violence and his maker and those around them had no concern for those they consumed. Alexandria brings things lost to him back but he is terrified he will hurt her one day. He meets an original vampire who is thousands of years old and his insights are very interesting. I would like to read more about his story.
I received a copy in return for a honest review.
A must read!!! Great tortured romance…
I really enjoyed Nathaniel (Nathan) and Alexandria’s tortured love
story. Both characters have people issues. They each have “powers” that
prove to be ineffective to one another. This revelation is great for
Alexandria and troubling to Nathan. They both get the “real” person when
they are with each other, not someone enthralled or pretending. Both
Nathan and Alexandria want to be “normal”, but, what is normal? Nathan
longs to be released from his past and keeping on the “down low” is a
must due to previous liaisons.
Nathan comes to the realization that he should not be with Alexandria.
He feels he is endangering her and keeping her from her work. But… he
can’t seem to stay away from her. Then her life becomes in danger from
a Fae creature that is attacking other beings, particularly those with
psychic abilities. Nathan also finds himself in danger and is trying
harder than ever to keep a low profile. In trying to do so he also is
trying to protect Alexandria without her knowledge. This doesn’t work
and he eventually has to come clean.
Nathan finds help in keeping Alexandria safe from some unlikely friends.
This story just gets better and better. Oh, and did I mention the
romance? It is hot, hot, and hot!!! Steamy and sexy and keeps you
wanting more. I would recommend this read to all supernatural romance
lovers. This story has romance, action, suspense and did I mention the
sex? It’s a great read. I look forward to reading more.
A Fading Amaranth was an eagerly awaited, much enjoyed novel by Shauna Aura Knight. If I didn't already adore her fiction (which I do), I would have been eager for this one anyway. I love vampires. I love their stories. I love it when they are utterly devoid of humanity, and I love it when they are -- like in this book -- very much like us, and drawn to us.
Within these pages we meet Nathaniel, a vampire wanting little more than to be away from his past, to be free, to be allowed to study and deal with the keeping his nature hidden and his profile low, for other supernatural things exist in the world, and his kind are no exactly welcomed. We meet Alexandra, human woman with the ability to see and know far too much, who has secluded herself in her home and in her art, for the world is too dangerous a place for her to venture often or freely. A chance meeting between the two makes them both realize they'd been missing more than they realized and it's not long before they've fallen head over heels for each other. Alas, the world is still full of other supernatural forces, some unfriendly to Nathaniel's kind, and some looking out for any unsuspecting victim. With Alexandra's powers acting as a beacon, can Nathaniel protect her while keeping himself safe? How much will Alexandra be willing to put up with from this new world she discovers before she goes running for the hills?
For those unfamiliar with the author's work, Knight's fiction runs the gamut from sweet to steaming to sizzling, so if you don't like to see sex on the page, this book won't be for you. I find the balance of story action to -- if you'll pardon the pun -- character action to be perfect. I highly, highly recommend this book!
Not bad, it has definite good parts, but the action is uneven. It leaps into a bunch of stuff like a video game before you care about the characters. I wish I could put my finger on how to improve it, because I know the author slightly, and I'd love to make her rich and famous. An OK read, worth the price of download.
This book was a lot of fun. Hotter than I expected, too. Good characters, great romance; definitely recommended.
